We're presenting a reading by journalist Anna Badkhen, whose most recent book "The World is a Carpet", recounts the year she spent living in the tiny Afghanistani village of Oqa, population 240, where the principle occupation is carpet weaving. The book takes a hard look at life in the village, with an emphasis on the impact of the violence and war in their country, as well as the world economic structures on their daily lives. Badkhen spoke with National Public Radio in June. You can hear the podcast here. August 16th, 6 pm.
