Marfa's own Toshi Sakihara will present "Senbazuru", an exhibition of his recent origami works. Senbazuru, meaning "one thousand Cranes", is a Japanese practice intended to gain luck and restore health.

Colson Whitehead, the author of the novels The Intuitionist, John Henry Days, Zone One and Sag Harbor will be reading from his work.
IDA SOULARD AND FABIEN GIRAUD
Fabien Giraud and Ida Soulard will discuss their forthcoming book and installation "Marfa Stratum", which explores the geologic history of the Permian Basin, sheaf theory (via Alexander Grothendieck), speculative realism (via Quentin Meillassoux) and catastrophe theory (via Rene Thom).
SAM SCHONZEIT
Artist and designer Sam Schonzeit will be officing, working and exhibiting in the MBCo gallery for the month of July. And when I say exhibiting, I mean two things: in addition to a rotating exhibition of Sam's paintings, sculpture, furniture, and pottery, much of which he will be making on site, Sam will be constructing a small gallery called "Showing People" where he will exhibit other artist's work.
DAVID TREUER
We're hosting the excellent novelist and non-fiction writer David Treuer this evening at 6 pm. Treuer is here with the Lannan Foundation and has recently finished his fourth novel, Prudence.
JEAN-BAPTISTE BERNADET, “SCENIC DRIVE”
Two years after his Artist’s Residency at the Chinati Foundation, Jean-Baptiste Bernadetpresents Scenic Drive, a new group of paintings, at the Marfa Book Company. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Wednesday, May 1st, from 5-7 pm, and will be on display through Sunday, May 26th, 2013. A prolonged meditation on the possible equivalencies between the mineral, human and pictorial realms unites the work.

Rosa Alcala will be reading from her own work as well as her translations from the recently published Spit Temple: The Selected Performances of Cecilia Vicuna.
